All the very best Bernard for a speedy and full recovery.

I'll never forget you coming on the supporters bus with a tray of sandwiches at Burton after we had pinched a 1-1 and then run into some trouble with some 'locals'. Always will be an Alty legend.

Did you ever notice how despite having the shiniest shoes in all of footballdom Bernard never got them muddy even when walking on the pitch?

I beg to differ.

They were extremely muddy in the quagmire surrounding the dugouts at Canal Street on Boxing Day 1998 (when Stuart Coburn scored a goal).

Get well soon Bernard. A good friend of mine suffered a stroke about 12 years ago. It was a big shock but she recovered totally and has had absolutly no problems since so keep positive.
I used to love seeing the players dash to give Bernard a big hug after scoring and it's great Bernard is fondly remembered as a succesful manager of Alty as well as a big favourite with the fans...we had some great times under Bernard and he bought back a lot of pride to the club at our lowest moments.

Get well soon Bernard. Will never forget the time you got onto the supporters coach after a dreadful defeat at Winsford and apologised to all the travelling supporters. I think half the team left after that game and we went on a winning run resulting in promotion. A true gent and got the job done when it needed doing.

All,

I've spoken to Bernard this morning, he is a bit fed up but doing OK.

I told him about this thread and some of the comments that were on it.  I didn't want to take any of the impact away from when he reads he but he was absolutley made up with it and couldn't believe it.  Footballs a game where you can be quickly forgotten and this thread is just incredible.

He wants to do a reply to everyone so I am ringing him at 3 so he can pass a message of thanks back to all the people who have taken the time to post.
