The great irony does appear to be that it didn't freeze here over night but I'd be surprised if the temperature rose enough to thaw the pitch from yesterday. Even if the grassy bits take a stud the muddy parts in the goals and up and down the touchlines are probably rock hard.

Can anyone with a memory of the mid to late 90s tell me how games at Northwich and Macclesfield went on on white and sparkly pitches that would get called off today?

I remember the game at Northwich on Boxing Day 1994 that was played on a snow-covered pitch with an orange ball. Also, the 3-2 win at Macc in 1995/96 took place after some serious snowfall - that night will live long in the memory!

It wasn't just that the pitches were snow covered, they were frozen.

We won at Stafford not that long ago on a snow covered pitch around Christmas time too.

Yeah, I particularly remember players falling on their arse left, right and centre at the aforementioned Northwich fixture.

George Oghani was playing in white trainers I think!

(In a Yorkshire accent) I remember when we'd play in 6 feet of snow after a 28 hour shift down t'pit and couldn't even afford boots!
