Winter Break
« on: February 11, 2012, 09:07:19 AM »

For those who always say we should have a winter break, this season is the reason why not.  We would have not played over xmas and new year and be back to the season now.

Hit the nail on the head Mr Apple. Doubt it will stop the discussion arising 2 or 3 times every season though.

Pretty much got the bulls eye.  Being pedantic for a moment the dreaded winter break could run for two or three weeks across Jan/Feb but still wold not guarantee to coincide with the worst of the weather.  That would leave us with a planned two week break PLUS an unscheduled weather break.

The suggestion of a winter break is now a dead dog. Bang.  Hear that noise? That was the dog being shot.

Thank You.

It might have worked 15 years ago when we used to have seasons, before we all broke the weather by using Mandate deodorant after PE with CFC's in.

Don't you hate it when global warming causes all this cold weather!

On a not very pedantic note, its not global warming, its climate change, which, for the UK, makes climatic events more extreme and unpredictable.

And on another note global warming is a myth

It's natural fluctuations that occur

Madrid Robin - in tht case you would have a 3 month break from beginning of November to the end of February which would cancel out a summer break. As has already mentuioned its not feasible.

The Anglesey league has a winter break, which has just ended. A majority of the teams play on astroturf pitches!

  ;D ;D

Note that those who play with oval balls, seem to manage in the snow!  ;)

So how would the winter break work practically then? Dates? Funding? FA cup format?

Traditionally the coldest month of the year is February. It would be impossible to have a winter break, the weather in this country is just too unpredictable.

The season should start on May 1st. and run until September 30th. All cup competitions should be abolished, and teams should play three times a week. That'll sort the men from the boys  ;D

Absolutely the irony I was trying to make. The man-made global warming bandwagon is an unscientific  and expensive con trick.
