Ups and downs

Chester need one more win for promotion, we could be seeing well funded brackley in the conference north as well, as southern league winners or Oxford city, depending on geography, especially of Histon go down. If Blyth lose again they are gone.

Looking at the play off spots in that league, Cambridge City or Stourbridge could make up the numbers.

We really won't know until the day of the AGM, not due to anything sinister, just due to the mish mash of clubs from differing regions all trying to fill limited promotion places.Brackley is near silverstone FFS, but that's still fairly "northern" in terms of clubs aiming for promotion. We could arguably be going to Bury (Suffolk) and Lowestoft should either have a great end to the season. I personally think its time to return to 3 feeder leagues.A northern A midlands and A southern. The winners of the 3 leagues getting automatic promotion and the 3 runners up, plus best 3rd place finisher over the 3 leagues going into a bag for an open draw set of playoffs semi's. It's bad enough being at this level without it being in all but name a national league. If stalybridge were playing a side that weren't from 200 miles away on a Tuesday night you could suggest a few more might have been in attendance.

I think the Play offs should work along this idea

Bottom and 2nd bottom relegated, champions of north/south  go up as Normal

2nd north v 2nd south   - winner play BSP 22nd

3rd north v 3rd south PO - winner plays BSP 21st at the BSP ground

4th north v 4th south PO - winner plays BSP 20th at the BSP ground

In the BSP to the FL/FL , same applies, champion swaps with bottom

2nd v 2nd bottom, 3rd vs 3rd bottom  4th v 4th bottom at the FL ground

They scrapped the relegation/promotion playoffs after places just got smashed to pieces after the matches.

Chelsea v Middlesborough in May 1988 was a prime example of this.

The suggestion that there was bother at those games simply because they were relegation/promotion play-offs simply doesn't stack up to a logical test.  A match between any two clubs, league, cup, play-off or even friendly can end in bother.  Similarly any match between two clubs in any fixture can go ahead without incident.

Play-offs bring extra pressure, regardless of how they are structured, that pressure could be the thing to ignite the idiots.

So, have I got this right?

On Monday Northwich are playing an away match that is 24 miles nearer to their fan base than their home ground is?  It will actually be easier for them to get to this away match than to their home matches?

Makes sense!

That's how some of the Alty matches work for me...Nuneaton, Hinckley, Solihull and Eastwood are all much closer than Moss Lane, and even Boston and Corby have quicker to get to.

Can you imagine that at Chelsea now, just running one end of the pitch to another?

Yes - it's called Fernando Torres.
