What did Altrincham F.C. do in 1977, something that did not happen again until 1988?

Play four FA Trophy ties against the same team in the same season?

Scarborough in 1977.

Fisher Athletic in 1988.

fail to make it past the 1st round of the FA cup!

1st Round:  1976–77, 1987–88,

2nd Round: 1982–83, 1983–84, 1984–85, 1986–87,

3rd Round: 1978–79, 1979–80, 1980–81, 1981–82,

4th Round: 1985–86

actually, judging by this we failed to make the even the 1st round during the 1978/79 season. that can't be true! can someone clarify?

Not the exact answer I was looking for but you're kind of right. Amazingly, we went 11 years without hving to qualify for the FA Cup! These days we're more likely to go 11 years without playing in the competition proper.  :(

Has any other non league team got anywhere near that record? Or 4 consecutive 3rd round qualifications for that matter??

We lost 2-1 at Runcorn in the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round on Saturday, 5th November 1977.

It rained.

And I think that Barry Howard might even have scored for Runcorn that day?

If he didn't, Whitbread would have.....
