Rename the Golf Road End competition
« on: June 24, 2012, 11:34:14 AM »

As another season has passed, planning for the 2012-13 season is already well underway at Moss Lane – except this time, it’s with a twist. Altrincham FC are offering a unique opportunity to all supporters and businesses, for one lucky winner to re-name the renowned Golf Road End.

Designed not only to bring the club closer to our supporters, 'Your Stand' also holds great potential coverage for local businesses; 21 Altrincham FC home games (average attendance of around 800), over 2,800 people connected to Altrincham FC via social media, 15 Manchester United FC Reserve games (all televised live on MUTV) as well as an ever-increasing Junior section of the club.

With the power in your hands, the stand name really is down to you; your name/family name/business name, a tribute or special question to someone, your favourite motto etc. You may even wish to officially call it ‘The Golf Road End’!

How do I get involved?

Two different entry levels are on offer:
1. £10 Individual Entry:
One name draw entry: your name listed in match day programmes for the season

2. £25 Corporate Entry:
One name draw entry
A colour advert in match day programmes for the season
Dual entry giving the opportunity to distribute flyers at a home game in the season
Simply return the application form attached to the club! There is no limit on the number of entries allowed from one party.

When will the draw be made?

The draw for the official re-naming will be made at the first Saturday home game of the new league season – make sure you come down and join us for the big event!".

Please make your application(s) by using the 'Your Stand' application form.

That will be £10 please

Bath did it for their stadium last season and a large % of entries were simply Twerton Park..

I don't like to knock the club when it's trying to raise funds, but I find renaming stands/stadia one of the naffest and most cringeworthy aspects of modern football.

We've done it before. I believe Dawn won a raffle or similar and it was the Dawn Abbott stand for a bit. Its a chance for you to get you name on a stand for a season and everybody will still refer to it as the golf road end. No problem in my eyes. Now if we changed it to the Jim Rushe stand permanently I could understand your misgivings.

Golf Road End was renamed the Debbie Dawson Stand for 2004-05 as a prize in the STAR raffle and in 2006/07 by the same process it was named the Dawn Abbott Stand and for 2007-08 became the Leighton Stand.

I don't care if we rename the stands after teletubbies as long as it brings much needed money into the club.

He usually played as if he had a ring IN it. Or perhaps he just has piles.

well I'm up for a go at this.  If I win it will be called the http://www.macmillan.org.uk/CancerInformation/Cancertypes/Breast/Aboutbreastcancer/Typesandrelatedconditions/Inflammatorybreastcancer.aspx stand.

Thank You...

Golf Road End - End of.

It would be more pleasing to rename the Chequers end for a season.

Golf Road is the home end. Chequers End name does not have as much importance to the home supporters, particuarly as the Chequers club no longer exists.

Please consider this as an option and leave the Golf Road End as it is.

Thank you.

Always thought the 'so-called' Chequers end was the Red Robin Club End?!  ;)

If any individual or organisation is daft enough to offer money to have his/her/their name on a stand or section of the ground, by all means take him/her/them up on it, but please don't expect the rest of us to take the idea in any way seriously. The Golf Road is the Golf Road, the main stand is the main stand, the Popular Side is the Popular Side and the open end the Chequers or Red Robin Club End, depending on your age. The only line I would draw in this regard is the name of the ground overall. Moss Lane it is, was and forever shall be.

As far as I'm concerned anyone can enter - unless your name is Bell!
