Horrible story. But, as above, not surprising.

Personally I'm of the opinion that all religions have a pernicious influence on society. But the fact that people continue to follow the Catholic Church after the incredible number of abuse scandlas that have come out is absolutely completely beyond my comprehension.

Hopefully those responsible - directly or indirectly/complicitly - will be brought to justice.

Of course they exist. You could name any profession and there would be the odd paedophile amongst their ranks.

However, the Catholic Church is a special case:-

1. If you deny priests the right to a healthy sexual relationship, is it any wonder they seek out gratification in whatever way they can? The scale of the the abuse within that institution is unbelievable.

2. For decades they have shielded rapists and torturers from legal repercussions in order to preserve their own reputations. Priest/teacher abuses kids in Altrincham? Let's shunt him to Workington and pretend it never happened.

Disgraceful.
