I think its fair enough, he's fulfilled his ambition and I for one admire his honesty, too many footballers sit on contracts, good luck to him. And I look forward to seeing him on the golf road end

Fair play to him I suppose. Would have liked him to have stuck it out a bit longer but if he thinks he can't give his all then I won't complain and it probably took a lot of guts to make that decision so soon after signing. Good luck to him

Fair play Danny, sounds like playing under Sinnott was the final straw

I can fully understand that

Leave it out, Jamie, yeah?

1. He hasn't left a vacant position after his announcement to retire.
2. He's had the decency to not halt the clubs progress with what, let's face it, would have been half hearted performances.

I was delighted to sign a player of his pedigree but silently held the opinion that we didn't really need him. At least we aren't losing a player like that who's a right winger or a holding midfielder.

Looking at his Twitter shows what sort of man he is, he's offered to refund a fan the cost of his Altrincham shirt that was purchased after his signing.

I'm sure he'll still be stood on the Pavillion.

Good luck to him, I don't bare a grudge, but it's just baffling how you can go from "signing for the club I support, can't wait" to "not enjoying it any more I'll retire" in the space of a week. Nevermind, good luck in future.

He's hardly going to sign for us and say "I've fallen out of love with the game, signing for my boyhood team is one last shot at rekindling my enthusiasm" is he?  That seems to have been what this is about and I don't begrudge him that opportunity at all.  good luck Danny, the right call I think.

On hearing it, I thought 'an absolute piss take',considering Chester's best player. However, reading the interview fair play. If your heart isn't in it and your not enjoying playing,no matter how well or poor, there is no point playing. He has achieved a lot in the game, such a shame a great career has ended in a performance such as last night.

All the best Danny, and defence can revert back to last week.

I think we should grateful for his honesty in not taking the money under false pretence's and also being big enough to admit that this was a failed attempt to rekindle a desire to continue playing the game. From what I can see, most ex-PL players are not interested in playing below Championship level anyway - so fair play to him.

I wish him every success in his media career.

Looks to me like the supporters team could have a pretty special new signing if he is feeling nostalgic in a few months.

I'm gutted I didn't get chance to see higgy in an alty shirt, and indeed a fantastic swan song from an excellent player but you can't fault a man for having the balls to say now is the time, and the love for the club to do it so swiftly in order to not take any more money from the club.

Cheers Danny, see you in the bar.

As a long time friend of Danny's I was made up when he joined ~ not because he is a mate but I hoped he would help us get promoted

I'm gutted he has decided to retire and so soon after joining

He has had  a career in football that most could only dream off whilst kicking a ball around Stamford park all those years ago with those coats on the floor as goal posts :)

He has gone so as not to damage the club he loves  and for him the tine was right

Great gesture to refund the shirt that was bought

Good luck for the future to him and his family in all he does

Looking forward to Saturday now and to keep challenging in this league
