A brawl broke out at a Lancaster City football match after players, officials and fans from a rival team turned up at the game.

A contingent from Ramsbottom United, including members of the team, arrived at the Dolly Blues’ match with Radcliffe Borough after their own game with Farsley was postponed, then a fight kicked off.

Lancaster supporters and the Ramsbottom group fought in the stands, bringing the Evo-Stik Premier League First Division North match to a halt.

A man condemned the brawl as it was happening over the Radcliffe Borough ground’s public address system.

He begged the City fans to return to the main stand and asked the Ramsbottom players, staff and fans to leave the ground.

“Thank you for disgracing Radcliffe Borough today,” he said.

“Please stop it. You’re making a right spectacle of yourselves. It’s becoming embarrassing. Grown men.

“The game is going to be abandoned if you carry on this behaviour.”

A fan on the Lancaster City FC supporters internet forum claimed afterwards that at least two Dolly Blues fans were injured and had to be taken to hospital.

The match was at Stainton Park in Radcliffe, Manchester on Saturday afternoon.

When the game restarted after the trouble subsided, City went on to win 4-1.

Ramsbottom United are in the same division as Lancaster City. The Dolly Blues lost 3-1 to Ramsbottom in a league game in February.
