It only just occurred to me today that Steve Gillespie is used to being a Robin......he's played for both Bristol City and Cheltenham Town, who share our illustrious nickname.

Some sort of perverse record ?

Have a mate who supports Cheltenham. Says Gillespie is a class act but has been unlucky with injuries since leaving them for Colchester.

I think we may have had a player in the past who was thrice a Robin.

In January 86 we signed a winger called Steve Buxton. Think he played for Wrexham and Cheltenham. Or maybe he made his debut or scored against Cheltenham? Maybe a 2-0 or a 4-1 win? Think he was quite good but anyone who signed for us after Xmas that season was always going to be a squad filler.

If Ashton United are the Robins too that poss opens up a couple more.

Flyby, Cult, any recollections?

Ballers,

Steve Buxton made his Alty debut (and scored a penalty) in the 4-1 defeat of Cheltenham Town at Moss Lane on Saturday, 11th January 1986 (i.e. three days before that FA Cup tie against Birmingham City).

He also played in the 2-0 FA Trophy Quarter-Final victory at Cheltenham Town on Monday, 10th March 1986.

His Alty career comprised a total of 5 (+6 as sub) appearances during the 1985/86 Gola League campaign.

Wasn't he the bloke with the moustache and a face which suggested he'd taken his false teeth out for the photo? (possibly he had?)
I've got to admit I didn't rate him too highly at the time but, then again, he had quite a lot to live up to.

Not bad considering it's pre-season. Pleased with that.
