STATEMENT ON MACC GAME

Altrincham FC chairman Grahame Rowley writes that "Following incidents at the Macclesfield Town game on Tuesday 30th September the Club were asked for their views by the FA with regards to the fan who ran onto the pitch and the throwing of a smoke canister onto the pitch - with possible sanctions/fines to follow.
I am happy to say that, following our representations to the FA, they considered that we took appropriate action on the night and adequate planning had taken place beforehand to avoid such incidents and, therefore, we were not sanctioned. We have also made assurances that the Football Club will do their utmost to ensure that repeat incidences do not take place.

Although spectators may think that running on the pitch during a game or throwing smoke canisters during goal celebrations is entertaining, they can have significant repercussions for the Football Club. Those responsible for these acts should take note of the possible effects on their Football Club".

Genuine question here.  What obligations or responsibilities (if any) do the away club have in relation to their fans?

I don't see how they can be expected to have any responsibility for how anyone behaves.

It would be great if all grounds could commit to giving a season long ban to miscreants but it would be very difficult to enforce. The banned person could turn up the following week with a wig on and they'd probably be able to slip in without the stewards recognising them.

Fan owned 1874 Northwich FC Club board were held to account when a fan approached the ref at the end of a match.....

STATEMENT FROM THE BOARD OF 1874 NORTHWICH FC
The Board of 1874 Northwich FC has previously advised that following an incident involving the referee and a spectator, at the end of our game at Runcorn Town on Tuesday 26th August, the football club was charged with failure to ensure that spectators conducted themselves in an orderly fashion.
On Monday 13th October our Chairman, supported by our Football Secretary, attended a hearing at the Cheshire FA HQ where a number of issues were discussed with Commission Members.  Following the hearing, we are pleased to advise that no further action will be taken against 1874 Northwich FC.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Cheshire FA for their positive feedback to the measures we have introduced since the incident.
The Board would like to reiterate our Football Club's support to the FA's Respect campaign and would remind supporters that appropriate behavior towards Officials, Opponents and fellow Supporters is expected at all times.

On a slightly different tack why were there stewards from Oldham at the Braintree game?

When the number of our volunteers available on a certain day drops below a certain level ( or increased stewarding is needed ) we hire in stewards from other clubs like Stockport, United, Oldham or the away team.

I wouldn't have thought so, would presume that the former part of the answer applies.

The number of volunteer stewards, like the number of gate operators has reduced quite markedly over the recent past.

Hence we have to pay for stewarding staff and sometimes cannot open all turnstiles.

The first of these two has the potential to be a significant drain on the Clubs finances and the second has the potential to portray the Club in a less positive light. You never know there may well come a point where we will have to pay "commercial" rates for gate operators too

To answer your point though Jamie, not it didn't require extra just we had to hire them in to get anywhere near the number required to be able to open the ground

FOOTNOTE: I am sure that anyone wishing to volunteer for either Stewarding or Turnstile Operation will be very much welcomed and it will be a huge help to the Club too

I see what your saying - maybe a more commercial outlook is required?

I thought you wanted more money put into the playing squad, not less.
