There's no way I'm going to predict the result in a match like this, as both teams are in hot form. However, the Macc team I've seen play twice this season, didn't look like they could hit a barn door. Defensively we seem to have got this team licked. Obviously, football isn't as predictable as that, but I think we have plenty of grounds to be hopeful tonight and I'm pretty sure the lads will fancy their chances.

i predict 2-1 to alty

macc fans start complaining about getting beaten by a tin pot team when they are nearly as massive as brizzle rovers ... pah

as long as we beat the sheep tamperers . i dont care

We're not as big as Brizzle.

But we're bigger than Alty. 4-2 to the Silkmen tomorrow.

Safe journey over.
Macc are second will make the playoffs with ease however avarage gate only a 100 and odd better gate so it's debatable that they are bigger

Look again towards the end of the season. A lot of our bigger gates are yet to come.

We'll have a 1500/1600 average I would expect.

I would reckon yours will end up near to 1100.

If we were second in the league Id guess ours would be about the same.

We finished 15th last year - a place below where you are now.

Our average attendance was 1,512.

What is Alty's?

http://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/confprem/attendances

At present you're 1,520, we're 1,217. Nip and tuck I'd say.

Thanks for that. Macc's average from those figures is 25% higher than Alty's.

We were poor first half. Kyle came on and changed everything. Despite going 2 nil down, we showed that we are a match for anyone in this league. Didn't see why our equaliser was ruled offside.

Creative mathematics? That'll explain all the financial irregularities that seem common place at the Moss Rose.

1217 divided by 4 to give 25% is 304.25.

Macc's average is 1521 - 304 higher.

Seems pretty accurate!

For that to be true Alty's average attendance would have to be viewed as the 100% figure meaning that you have an attendance figure of 125%. As you may know, you can not have greater than 100%. Therefore both Alty's and Macc's average attendance must be expressed as a fraction of some other figure in order to get a comparative percentage. Even if you take Macc's average as 100%, that only gives a 20% difference.

Absolutely you can have a percentage more than 100% if you are comparing two different sized numbers and starting with the lower.

Take this example:

If a club has a gate of 1000 one match, and then the next match it is 3000, what is the percentage increase?

It is clearly 200%.

The way to look at it in relation to our crowds is to take it by number. For every 100 people you get through the gate, we get 125. Self evident. Per cent means per hundred after all!

If you'd prefer to see it as every 100 of ours there are 80 of yours, fair enough!

All this cock waving isn't very edifying is it? Fact is Macc have marginally larger crowds at the moment as befits a side with recent league experience, are second in the league and are a town side, as a opposed to a team fresh upfront the Conf North. Looking back at over 100 years history, we are both about the same in terms of size and maybe that's what makes the rivalry so relevant and exciting. Can we let it lie?

This reminds me of Northwich Victoria FC.

As for your petty argument that Macc are a bigger club, I suggest a neutral opinion could be sort. For example County fans that viewed our support last season in the Conf North better than yours when you were a League club.
