Unfortunately Jimmy, i think it is both balance and quality.  And I think that is a consequence of the transfer policy.

It was easy when we could splash the cash to bring in Jeff Johnson, Tony Webber, Mal Bailey, John King, Barry Howard, Barry Whitbread, Phil Wilson...

And with Graham Heathcote being the only example of a home grown player for a 15 year period!

Imagine if we had that kind of money now and could effectively build a "Cream of the North Part Time players XI"

If we get a loan from a local f/t league club (on a free) would the player still train with his home club, but get match experience with us?
