FA CUP MATCH: CLUB STATEMENT

"Altrincham FC were notified today by the FA at 1.45pm that our Emirates FA Cup game vs Barnsley had been chosen to be one of eight games moved to Sunday November 8th with a 2pm kick off for live single camera footage with an FA compensation fee of £12,500 payable to the club.

By 3.30pm we were notified by the FA that Barnsley FC would not agree to this move and therefore the game would remain on Saturday 7th November.

Representations were made to Barnsley FC by both our secretary, Derek Wilshaw, and myself but to no avail. They wished to stick to their Saturday /Tuesday game schedule and were averse to moving another fixture.

The FA have power to force clubs who are involved in a live game to play at a specified time and date. However, they are not happy to impose such sanctions when it involves a live single-camera game.

Therefore, unfortunately, we yet again lose out on an opportunity to parade our talents live in the FA Cup".

Grahame Rowley, Chairman.

Incentive for the lads.

Maybe they don't want to be seen getting beaten on live TV!

Arsed

The only real money to be made in this round is by live TV, which was not offered

We will make up the difference of £12.5k by getting a bigger gate

Stop complaining - start selling tickets

I'm sure they will start to be sold when they are printed.

Bit rude to the chairman the tone of that, you can see why he'd be annoyed at it and as everyone was pretty baffled why it wasn't picked for TV.  Now they know.

Its supposed to be a compensation payment (as the statement says)

Lets get on and arrange this match before it becomes a bit of a wet lettuce due to poncing about like we did for the Millwall game

We can make up the 12.5k due to additional ticket sales for a Saturday

Jamie

We did not "ponce about" as you call it for the Millwall match.

Due to the categorisation of the fixture by TMBC and GMP we were effectively relieved and much input or control of the circumstances surrounding that fixture.

I, and I would think many others who were involved in this game, the meetings and the preparation find your post offensive and insulting - not that you'll give a toss of course as I believe that you revel in the role of chief faeces agitator

I might be wrong, but I thought the gate was split three ways after expensives.
This would mean that we would have to take another £35.500 gate receipts!!
I don't think that is going to happen.
Hope I'm proved wrong.

Didn't Luton do something similar to us with the replay?

Think so..............cannot remember the exact circumstances though.

On the topic of the Millwall game........all pubs in Timperley shut on police instruction !........ Moss Trooper and Sylvan (my locals at the time) not open at dinner time.........now that is wrong, I bet GMP don't close the Bishops Blaize, the Gorsehill or the Tollgate Tavern when Millwall come to town.............rant over

According to the FA rules you have a different split depending on the round and if it is a replay.

It is gate receipts minus VAT, expenses such as policing, stewarding, away team travel, referees fees etc. That gives  the net receipts to be split. For the Barnsley match the split is 50/50.

So, roughly speaking, if you had 2000 adults paying £14 each and deduct 20% VAT, then half it and that only gives you £11200. Then you have the other deductions. Yes you have bar takings, programme sales etc. Some wouldnt come if they could see it on telly but you also have no united at home and an extra day to sell the tickets with a Sunday match. The switch would have created media interest too.

Would the crowd really be over 2000 more on a saturday to make up the shortfall?   Anyway, whats done is done..

How about increasing the cost of the tickets for away fans sections? Premier and League clubs do this depending on who they play.

I'm as gutted as the next person but you can't really blame Barnsley for making this decision.

Why would they want to have a possible loss to a non league club shown on TV?

Shoe on the other foot I'd be saying 'no thanks' too
