Great news for Duncan and I assume us, there is surely a sell-on clause. Not so sure that you see too many 5 year contracts these days either.

Great news , not beyond beyond possible that he goes somewhere for five  million at some stage if he carries on improving and if we have say  a 10 % plus  sell on clause .

Not sure we see it here either. It's a four year contract isn't it Figgy?

Good result, hope he does well.
Another good thing for Duncan, is that Big Sam likes how he is progressing 😀

If Duncan looks good in what is a pretty poor Sunderland team, the big clubs will be knocking on the door if they should get relegated. Think I'll find a boozer to watch them at Palace tomorrow night.

It's actually neither,it's 4 and 1/2 years.

I admire your pedantry but I've not thought about this much. When you agree a new deal does it start at the end of the current deal or start immediately?

I guess that is part of the negotiations - you can have pay rise now of a bigger one at the end of the season....

I'd never thought about it possibly starting at the end of the current deal actually,I just presumed it started when announced.

If it's a "new" deal then it starts at the date of signing, unless there is a clause added stating otherwise, but that seems an unusual thing to do.

Just came across this articel by Andy Mitten from back in August: http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/manchester-united-story-premier-leagues-9885017

Interesting to see in print that the fee was around £100,000 (as has been suggested on here).

Also interesting to see Graham Rowley saying that some of the cash was spent on getting players in for our promotion season, and that cash was spent on the CSH.

I am sure there was a forum thread about this very article back at the time............think the conclusion was that the MEN 'facts' and 'quotes' are journalism and may not be correct
