Pre match drinking

Is Costellos still the watering hole of choice before home games? I'm considering a few pre match drinks tomorrow.

Please pardon my ignorance this is a genuine question.

Why, when we have a Sports Hall selling food, decent beer and with the Footy on the Telly would you be going to an alternative venue?

Because not everyone people socialise with attends Altrincham matches. And 8 hours in one venue that isn't your place of work is a bit tedious.

Not a heckle as the community sports hall has improved the off field experience no end, but do we actually have any decent ale on tap? There's a lot of places now in the town centre that do very good real and craft ale (Market Hall, Costellos, Cheshire Tap etc etc) and I think we need to up our game a little bit. Hate to mention them as they do generate mixed opinions but my local side Dulwich Hamlet just get a few barrels in pre Saturday home matches from local Brewers and serve them until they run out. The queue for that bit of their bar is always huge. I believe our end of season beer festival always does well so any reason why we couldn't trial something similar to what they do at Dulwich? We have an award winning national Brewer on our doorstep in Dunham Massey I bet a couple of barrels of their ale would fly out. Apologies if ive misread the current set up but I don't get to many home games.

Cheshire tap.
That is one expensive bar. Took my wife in there, a pint of cider, and a glass of wine £10-60???.
I can't see it lasting long.

This isn't a dictatorship, people are quite within their rights to drink where they want to, not to mention the CSH doesn't always have decent beer on tap. Tuesday for example there was no Wainrights on, which isn't the 1st time that's been the case for our home games.

Just to add that those who choose to drink elsewhere pre-match put more than enough money behind the bar at half time and after the game in any event.

I think it is fair to say that the quality of beer on offer in the CSH is five times better than it was previously.

The Wainwright bitter is excellent and as a drinker of it myself I can understand the frustration when it wasn't available Tuesday.......I can only hazard a guess that the club maybe didn't put it on due to the expectation of low numbers on Tuesday night from home fans and in particular away fans........barrels are expensive and only have a shelf life of a few days.
There are however a selection of bottled real ales available, which although slightly dearer, are a reasonable alternative. There is also plenty of lager

The CSH is a great facility, but as an obvious 'social type' club, it lacks the close comforts of a traditional pub. Hence I fully understand why some may choose to drink in a pub. It is also fair to point out that the group of supporters who go in Costellos also use the CSH at half time and post match and probably put hundreds behind the bar over a season.

We appear to be fishing in a small pond here once again and the real issue is how do we get the 700 odd people who never buy a pint or a pie or a golden goal or a programme, to do so?
