Please pardon my ignorance this is a genuine question.

Why, when we have a Sports Hall selling food, decent beer and with the Footy on the Telly would you be going to an alternative venue?

It's a bobbins pint.

I think it is fair to say that the quality of beer on offer in the CSH is five times better than it was previously.

The Wainwright bitter is excellent and as a drinker of it myself I can understand the frustration when it wasn't available Tuesday.......I can only hazard a guess that the club maybe didn't put it on due to the expectation of low numbers on Tuesday night from home fans and in particular away fans........barrels are expensive and only have a shelf life of a few days.
There are however a selection of bottled real ales available, which although slightly dearer, are a reasonable alternative. There is also plenty of lager

The CSH is a great facility, but as an obvious 'social type' club, it lacks the close comforts of a traditional pub. Hence I fully understand why some may choose to drink in a pub. It is also fair to point out that the group of supporters who go in Costellos also use the CSH at half time and post match and probably put hundreds behind the bar over a season.

We appear to be fishing in a small pond here once again and the real issue is how do we get the 700 odd people who never buy a pint or a pie or a golden goal or a programme, to do so?

To be fair, you need to remember that those 700 are already giving a fair bit of money to the club just by going through a turnstile.  Its worth remembering also that the CSH is actually getting people to spend money inside the club without going to matches so it works both ways.

I rarely drink pre or post match but it is quite right for fans to drink in the town centre on matchdays.  It may have been said on here in the past by someone that they are taking the club into the town by doing so and it is a very good point.

Some fair points Bob
My point was simply that the club would be much better off if we could encourage those that already pay their entrance fee and contribute to the club through the turnstiles, to also have a pint every so often either pre or post match in the CSH.
At the moment the CSH has what you could call a small hardcore of patrons - hence my comment about fishing in a small pond

Not a heckle as the community sports hall has improved the off field experience no end, but do we actually have any decent ale on tap? There's a lot of places now in the town centre that do very good real and craft ale (Market Hall, Costellos, Cheshire Tap etc etc) and I think we need to up our game a little bit. Hate to mention them as they do generate mixed opinions but my local side Dulwich Hamlet just get a few barrels in pre Saturday home matches from local Brewers and serve them until they run out. The queue for that bit of their bar is always huge. I believe our end of season beer festival always does well so any reason why we couldn't trial something similar to what they do at Dulwich? We have an award winning national Brewer on our doorstep in Dunham Massey I bet a couple of barrels of their ale would fly out. Apologies if ive misread the current set up but I don't get to many home games.

This is definitely a good idea & worth investigating.

I thought Bromley had a really good idea actually. They get some ale in from brewery local to the team they are hosting. For example when we played down there they had MPA on.

Don't get owt in when we play anyone from Sussex or Hants, the Bognor beer experience was shocking. Very good idea though Beez, that said the sheer number of micro brewery's in this area alone means people would be throwing barrels at you simply for the exposure. I'd still have a pint in costellos at lunch time though

Whether you love it or hate it, Dulwich's "hipster" tag has brought them a lot of publicity, with a big increase in attendances.

That was a really good  & novel idea & worth looking at, although I would certainly question how profitable this might be.

I go to Costello's after the game because it hasn't got a TV.

I believe the bar selling MPA was owned, and run by JW Lees

Because not everyone people socialise with attends Altrincham matches. And 8 hours in one venue that isn't your place of work is a bit tedious.
unless its a really good pub of course

i would choose to have a few in costellos then go to csh but would be very upset if there was no wainwrights on as the alternatives are poor . strong cider would be a winner for me maybe bottled henry westons or katy.

To those of you who have posted a civilised reply to my genuine question I say Thank You

To those of you who responded with a spot more "emotion"  I'll still say thanks and remind you that it was a genuine question, phrased politely and at no point did I attempt to dictate where anyone drank. If that is how you chose to interpret the question then that ain't my fault.

Putting on cask beer is a bit of a gamble if games get cancelled. The beer only stays in good condition for a few days. If it's not sold it eats in to the profits.
