This press release, below, should be on the club's Facebook and twitter pages now and on the website shortly. We have a picture of Callum holding an Alty shirt that should also be on the website soon.

Altrincham’s joint press and media officer John Edwards writes: Neil Young has added a left-back to his array of new signings after snapping up teenage prospect Callum Charlton from Huddersfield.

Bradford-born Charlton, 19, has the versatility to operate anywhere on the left flank, and Alty boss Young welcomed him to The J.Davidson Stadium by saying:

‘Callum is a left-back who can also play as a winger. He is very quick and dynamic and will fit in well here.’

The pacey left-sided specialist first took the eye at Brighouse Town and joined Championship side Huddersfield on a one-year contract 12 months ago, after impressing during a six-week trial.

Huddersfield’s development coach Frankie Bunn said at the time: ‘Callum did well in his trial period with us and has potential that is worth exploring, so we are delighted he has joined us.

‘He possesses genuine pace – a good attribute for any player who likes to get forward – trickery and a decent delivery.’

When Charlton became available at the end of his Huddersfield contract, Young wasted no time strengthening Alty’s left flank and adding to a new-look squad that is rapidly taking shape ahead of the new season.

We're building a young side that looks to have plenty of potential. If they mix in well with the experience we have and get on a good run it could be an exciting season.

Well we have signed some decent players for next season. All these will be hungry for success, and keen to impress. It is far too early to predict where we will finish, but I think previous suggestions of around 8th are pretty accurate for the first season. I am going to forget last season now and only look forward ongoing. Despite some of the criticism of signings by some quarters, I am really looking forward now to next season, starting with the friendlies. 'fraid I can't make some of them as I'm away in Turkey on holidays in the latter part of July. Like the sound of our new left back, plus Jamie Mennagh in particular and the centre back from Fylde. Much to interest us there,  but I'll tell you what, pre-season is going to be a headache getting used to all those new players; not least, inventing songs for them all.

Give them a chance to blend and get used to each other, and I think we will have a very good squad, given time.

Pre-season will be tricky : just trying to keep tabs on who is who will be a challenge   ;D

However, the good news is most players have signed on already and will have their names on their shirts, which should help...........in recent seasons we have had to speculate and discuss who our trialists are at pre-season games........and still being a bit under the weather with what has gone on, I think the 'trialists' we have signed on in recent years have all just simply not been good enough

NY clearly does things differently - so lets hope the new approach of doing business early works out - I really hope it will

The lack of a transfer window and ability to loan player when are wherever possible also makes it key to have a stable core that we can add to

We are in the conference north, players no longer have specific squad numbers or names on shirts!

Official team photo will be stored in my phone so I can memorise the faces. It'll be like bloody Crimewatch. Mind you, a lot of what we watched last season verged on the criminal.

Argh...........you are right

Maybe we should have studied the electoral register to find 11 players called J Davidson
