New conference proposals
« on: June 20, 2016, 09:52:50 AM »

Over the weekend there were proposals announced via The Vanarama Conference Facebook page canvassing fan opinion on two new agendas ahead of the 2017/18 season.

1.  Expanding the playoff to 2nd-7th

QF (1 leg) 7v4 and 5v6 midweek
SF (1 leg) 2nd v 5th/6th and 3rd v 7th v 4th weekend

2. North and south finals to be held at Wembley.

North south and premier all in one day at Wembley

For me, its a no to expanding north and south playoff and yes to expandung premier playoffs.
And a no to the Wembley playoff for the north.

No to all from me. If you come 6th or 7th you have to accept you weren't quite good enough and re-group for the following season and Wembley is already devalued enough with FA Cup semi finals etc being played there,it should be for Cup Finals and England Internatonals only IMO.

Playing the regional finals at Wembley would be utterly ridiculous and would make them a mere sideshow to the National final. Look how good the atmosphere and occasion was when we played Guiseley. Maybe look at expanding it to the top seven, but no way should the final be at Wembley.

A no from me, if they want to squeeze more money out of the playoffs then make the final two legged. Playing at Wembley at an odd time watching from a corner/top tier of the ground as a side show ahead of FGR v Torquay is about as unappealing as it gets. Ferriby v Fylde couldn't muster 2000 playing in the north of the country

And what happens if it's FC United v Stockport, Wealdstone v some other north London club and Tranmere v Wrexham?

Graham Rowley's view

"It keeps clubs' and supporters' interest going, even if your team hasn't started the season brilliantly. Having the top seven clubs involved, rather than the top five as it is currently, allows extra hope to live. It gives more opportunity for teams to be involved and crowds should rise because of it.

I can see some negatives. Clubs will have to pay their players for two weeks longer and there will be some who'll be annoyed if the team finishing second lose out on promotion to the team who finish in seventh but that's football. ...

"If you're a smaller side who dream of reaching the Football League, then your chances are enhanced... It's really good that the National League are thinking about things and looking for ways to keep the competition interesting and current...

It will be difficult to stage three games there [Wembley] in a day but, if it can be done, then why not look at it?... The North final can't be up first. It's not fair on those travelling to start at midday"

Yes to extending the play offs.....no to wembley side show play off final.....can you have imagined 20k grimsby fans  at the britannia stadium final during our win v eastbourne?....thats why not look at it grahame.....it's a special day for two sets of fans not a side show for another 4 sets of fans and holding the final in the north gives more fans access....look at the fans we must have attracted in that guiseley final at moss lane!!!

Bollocks as usual from the absolute clowns who run the sport in this country ???

Should be top three up from Conf Nat and three down from FL and four down from Conf Nat and top two up from Conf North / South

Understand playoffs generate income and interest.............so has to be 2nd to 5th only.......anything else just devalues the whole league system.

As for playing at Wembley - forget it...............I don't want to go there to see us play Harrogate in front of 3000 people (500 from posh Yorkshire) when we could either cram in a two legged affair at our own grounds or play one game at (say) Chesterfields excellent Proact Stadium
