As it's now 1st July,  I assume the new holding midfielder will now be out of contract and an announcement will be forthcoming.

When does his contract end? Seems a bit odd that a club still has a player contracted past 1st July that isn't staying with them!

if someone has signed a two year contract on the 15th July then they still would be under contract

He was released a while back. You'd have thought if it is him we'd have signed him by now?

Surely if a player is released they're no longer under contract

I think released may just mean contract not being renewed.

If I was on a league two footballers wages I'd make sure I went to the end of the contract.
