First goal 'not read by Alty'
« on: October 26, 2016, 01:35:00 PM »

John Laidlar states that Bradford's first goal, from a free kick, was not read by Alty. I beg to differ because both McWilliams and Miller read it. Miller twice went to mark their scorer McKenna, but was instructed to stay upfield by the manager leaving the player completely unmarked. All other Alty players were otherwise engaged and Miller was ideally placed to cover the scorer. If a manager can ever be responsible for conceding a goal, this was it.

When you're chasing a game though you need to gamble and keep someone up top or the ball just keeps coming back. Damned if you do,damned if you don't really.

The player was in a dangerous position, he should have been marked.

As summariser on Radio Robins at the time I called it as Miller being at fault for not getting back to defend with both Reeves and Marsh on the half way line.

If Miller was instructed to stay up then I owe him a sincere apology as I castigated him on air at the time.!

Having previously been critical of Lee Sinnott for not having anyone on the half way line when the opposition have a corner, it has been refreshing to see two players in advanced positions when defending corners.

However three was pushing it last night if that was the managers instruction ?
