The irony is that it's the anniversary of one of our greatest moments as a Club, whilst today was probably one of, if not the lowest point in footballing terms. What a legacy the Board are creating.

Just to point out a particularly striking error in that article: Doug Newton did not play for Alty on that famous evening.

The player inexplicably omitted is dear old perma-tanned blond bombshell Colin Chesters.

The following highlighted strange claim is also entirely bogus:

"Phil Gardner quickly found himself out of favour with the new management at Altrincham and left the club, although like many of the team, he later returned to work as editor of the club matchday programme."

Oh, and Peter Conning left Alty to join Rochdale rather than Stockport County.

Just to cheer us all up (particularly fellow Alty season ticket holder Martin Green), here's a lovely abiding image of Robert Hopkins' majestic own goal (with David Seaman floundering on the St Andrew's turf) which secured the Robins' 2-1 victory:

This afternoon, while clearing junk out, my husband came across the wonderful programme which was produced for the 20th anniversary party called Birmingham 20.  The back page is full of signatures of the 11 (Colin couldn't make it).  Not sure quite what to do with it, tbh

Is there a case for this goal being a David Seaman own goal. On viewing it over and over again (joy!) I'm not convinced the original back pass was going in? Certainly you'd generally be trained not to put pass backs on target?
