Idiots guide to northern premier league football
« on: April 03, 2017, 08:03:55 AM »

Heres a brief guide to what changes culturally and other wise we will encounter next season.

FA CUP

The Football Association's competitions department usually announce the draws for the early rounds of the competitions as well as details of exemptions and a list of accepted clubs in the first week of July. So it wi be a draw of for example Altrincham v the winner of a preliminary round tie

NPL Clubs enter the competition in the FA Cup's first qualifying round on Saturday 10 September with rounds following every two weeks up to and including the first round proper on Saturday 5 November.

FA Trophy

NPL Clubs enter in the first qualifying round on Saturday 29 October with the remaining two qualifying rounds and the first round following fortnightly - the latter being played on Saturday 10 December.

League

The league season will likely start on Saturday 12th August. Fixtures aren't usually released until around Friday 15th July as there needs to be a wait for football league and conference fixtures to be announced.

Blyth spartans will be promoted to the conference north this week and will be joined by one of
Nantwich
Stourbridge
Spennymoor
Warrington
Whitby
Buxton
Matlock
Grantham
Workington

Going the other way will be
Skelmersdale, Ilkeston and two from

Sutton Coldfield
Frickley
Corby
Mickleover
Halesowen

Coming up will be two from

Farsley
Lancaster
Glossop
Trafford
Colne
Ossett town
Scarborough
Clitheroe

And two from

Shaw lane
Witton
Spalding
Newcastle Town (under Lyme)
Basford United
Rushden & diamonds
Leek town
Lincoln United
Stocksbridge Park steels

I'll add more later.

Thanks for the enlightenment, potentially a lot of cup games there. I assume then there will be more midweek games for successful teams. Hopefully ourselves.

The 'coming up' lists are quite dismal reading. Sure I'll wake up one day and realise it was all a dream and we're really playing Tranmere and Leyton Orient next season.

Is this the way to Mickleover
I'd rather go there than Dover

We will, of course, also play Stalybridge and possibly Gainsborough again. Not Worcester as they' would go into South.

Similarly, if Gainsborough DO go down, the most southerly club already in the glue league would have to move. That's Stourbridge.....or if THEY win the playoffs it'd be Halesowen.

Lots of twists and turns yet !

The fact we may well play Scarborough and Rushden next season kicks one particular flimsy argument right into touch for me...

As far as the promotion scenario goes, in both North and South divisions the top two clubs are both well clear of the play off pack. It seems clear that we'll  definitely play one or other of :

Farsley/Lancaster
Shaw Lane/Witton

In both cases, the current leaders are shown first......and the second placed clubs can overtake them if they win their one game in hand.

A significant number of these clubs/villages aren't served by Rail, and a cursory glance at the NPL forum last night saw people calling each other scabs and arguing over the miners strike, in April 2017. What on earth have we been dragged in it.

Another thing to consider is that a few teams share with other sports so that has to be considered when fixtures are drawn up.
Mickleover, Stourbridge and Matlock all share with cricket, Grantham with athletics and Shaw Lane with rugby union (and have lots of postponements), while Newcastle Town play in a velodrome. There may be others I have forgotten.
I can't see us playing AFC Rushden and Diamonds next season, even if they sneak through the playoffs, as they are groundsharing at Kempston, near Bedford, next season, so will surely head south.

Who has got the bollocks to stand up and say "we are in this league and its my responsibility"?

Come on.
