The before and after records of our last five managers (excluding caretakers) doesn't make pretty reading:

Lee Sinnott
Previous managerial job: sacked by BPA
Next managerial job: none

Neil Tolson
Previous managerial job: sacked by Hyde
Next managerial job: none

Neil Young
Previous managerial job: sacked by Stockport
Next managerial job: none

Jim Harvey
Previous managerial job: sacked by Halifax
Next managerial job: none

Matt Doughty
Previous managerial job: none
Next managerial job: N/A

That's why I'm quite pleased we've gone for someone like Parkinson. It makes a refreshing change to employ a up-and-coming manager on the back of relative success elsewhere, rather than one on the way down. Hopefully he will, eventually, go on to even better things after doing a good job here too.
Incidentally, when was the last time an Alty manager left us to go on to a 'better' job? I've been watching over 25 years and can't think of one during that period, unless I'm missing someone really obvious.

Anyway, his first target must be to break the curse of the 'first game' as an Alty manager. Again I might be missing someone really obvious, but I don't think an Alty manager has won their first game in charge for nearly 15 years? In fact, Neil Young could hold the record as the only Alty manager, of the seven different managers during that time, who didn't lose their first game in charge?

Ken McKenna?

If you're being lenient Graham Barrow?

Cheers mate, brought back memories of McKennas first game. 45 seconds in away at Eastbourne, walking through their fans and we concede!! Lose 5-0

Great point here.  We are in such a two 'n eight there is plenty of scope for improvement.

McKenna lost his first game in charge 5-0 to Eastbourne, foreshadowing his last game in charge somewhat!

That was aimed at the first question regarding going on to better things, not first games in charge. I'm still in therapy for that 0-5 defeat.

This appointment will only work with a chairman that doesn't cut corners and acts professionaly at all times, good luck Phil

I agree. Hence my managing the board comments earlier.

The Nantwich Town viewpoint:

Not quite our version of events.

To clarify, the Chairman of Nantwich Town Football Club has been advised that Altrincham Football Club did not make an approach to Phil Parkinson.

It did seem unlikely that our board would be so proactive to be honest.

That's good news Brian, shows that he had the ambition to apply. I guess Nantwich are slightly miffed, let's all hope he is the best man for the job and not another false dawn.

Thanks Brian, I suspected it was an attempt to deflect any criticism they might be getting - easier to say 'his head was turned' than 'he applied for the job'. Poor form.

Welcome Phil and good luck!

Bit odd that the dabbler website suggests our board approached him for the job. Our board have shown themselves to be the softest touch in English football, so that seems very unlikely indeed.

Best of luck phil....we need to be a little patient to begin with but hopefully we will have a good pre season and hit the ground winning.

Other clubs were approached regarding speaking with their manager about the vacancy.
