Pitch Inspection at Buxton - MATCH OFF
« on: February 09, 2018, 10:48:13 AM »

Buxton F.C. have advised that there will be a pitch inspection at 10:00am tomorrow.

Temperatures in Buxton are forecast to drop to -2 degrees celsius overnight & there is a likelihood of rain from early tomorrow morning that is expected to continue for most of the day, therefore there is a potential threat to the match going ahead from both freezing & wet conditions.

Ray,

I hope that you haven't been involved in any of these unseemly shenanigans in Bayston Hill:

Hi Cult ... I know about the incident but not guilty personally.. pissed up bowlers chucking about the insults who should have known better.
Far to sedate in Bayston hill although we do have a few bowls teams in the village of which I am club Captain this coming season...

Hard to believe but games do occasionally get a bit feisty.... Quite a few of the younger generations play nowadays.

Why inspect at 10am when the game isn't due to start til 3pm? The temperature is due to rise as the afternoon wears on, and any significant rain is forecast for late morning onwards. So the state of the pitch at 10 is not likely to reflect the state of the pitch at 3.

Looking at that webcam in Buxton, I’d say very little chance for the match to be on today

The snow stopped about half an hour ago here in Buxton, leaving about one inch on the ground. It’s now raining lightly. The snow is visibly and audibly melting - my gutters and downspouts are running with melted snow. I still assert that it will have gone by 3pm as the temperature is rising and will continue to do so.

I think the issue will be whether the pitch can stand an inch of melted snow before becoming waterlogged. Fingers crossed for a wise inspection.

Buxton twitter says (5 min ago) that they're still waiting for a ref to inspect but it isn't looking good.
