Altrincham vs Runcorn - FA Trophy Final 1986
« on: March 19, 2018, 02:22:55 PM »

Found my old copy of this game and uploaded it to YouTube.

Looking at a mid 80s VHS video is like trying to watch through fog but its nice to see. Dens' Dad at left back for Alty

what a nice afternoon I've just had reliving some great memories, got my ticket of the late Ray Mercer secretary of Kiddy Harriers we had there directors tickets as they had a Welsh Cup Final the following day.Dad and I were sat next to the officials of Kettering we got some funny looks off them in our Alty scarves but who cared especially when Mick Farrelly scored. Paul Cuddy was awesome that day. The only sad part it was the last game of that spell in charge of the King

what great memories thank you for posting....

amazing how few back passes there were or fannying around at the back...both sides first thought to knock it forward....and in the days of backpasses allowed great to see both keepers kicking it long from their hands starting immediate attacks.

I remember this being a poor game...bit it seemed to eb and flow nicely for both sides with some ferocious tackles flying in.....think the pitch was very difficult to play....

Runcorn must have hated us, they finally get to the final and we beat them after the famous mal bailey goal stopped them getting to Wembley a few years before..

I suspect there'd be a few more yellow and red cards these days....

Overall football was better in them days...

Another thing is the tackling if this game was played today it could be 8 aside by half time Lee and  Crompton  definitley off for Runcorn  and possibly Roberts  Cuddy  definitley  Farelly and  Conning probably for Alty.
Proper football back then thank God. Two local teams full of players who had played against each other for most of their lives with scores to settle never going to be pretty
