Rushall Olympic: Match thread
« on: March 27, 2018, 11:52:31 PM »

A repeat of tonight and we'll destroy them. I'm driving down via the National Brewery Museum at Burton, and looking forward immensely to winding up Richard Brodie again.

Rushall 1
Alty 3 (Hulme, Johnston, Richman)

Attendance 377

It's only an hour and a half down the M6. Let's get there in force and back the boys to the hilt !

I note they had a fine result vs Ashton last night, but their tally of 68 goals against is one of the worst in the division so we’ll certainly get opportunities. The Harrison injury news a real concern, Hannigan will have to be managed very carefully through the remainder of the season now.

Their ground looks somewhat more typical for this level than Halesowen’s-as anyone who bought this months When Saturday Comes would see in the special photo feature done at Rushall vs Workington.

Also to note that Walsall are at home to the very well supported Pompey on Saturday afternoon too so pubs/taxis from Walsall town centre will be v busy if coming from that way.

Rushall 0-2 Alty Hulme Peers

Hope we can get a good following.

Rushall 3/1
Draw 14/5
Alty 4/6

Below is the current form table, both our and Warrington’s opponents are on decent runs

There is a pub right by their ground (the other side of the canal)

Noted that one. It gets a very good write up in the Good Beer Guide-The Manor Arms.

One of the oldest pubs in England, continuously licenced since the 13th. Century. The pub has no bar, the beer being served from the wall ! Note that they don't accept card payments.

Two Aussie clubs, but if we're talking UK, not AFAIK. Historically there was a Blackburn Olympic (but that's back in the 1800s).

You have to wonder about a pitch inspection tomorrow. Forecast is very grim in the Walsall area currently.

Blackburn Olympic were only in existence from 1878-89, but won the FA Cup in 1882-3. The growth of professional clubs in Lancashire in the 1880s & the formation of the Football League in 1888 did for them.

Please God let this game be played - with a dodgy forecast for Monday as well we could really do without any more postponements!

For a current club, try Radcliffe Olympic of the East Midlands Counties League. They are from Radcliffe-on-Trent, not the one near Bury, by the way.

Good one! If you look over the Channel there's Olympique Lyonnais (in the French Ligue 1) among others ...
