The first season of the APL
« on: May 10, 2018, 01:00:02 PM »

Having enjoyed this season I thought I'd have a look back at our 1st season in the APL when we memorably won the title at Gravesend.

Interesting to see the teams in that league...how many have shot by us but we've actually stayed the course with many as well...

worth scrolling down to the fixture matrix to see how as with this season a high scoring home win was the norm...

Interesting also to look at the home League match attendances for that season (in chronological order) - not as high as one might have thought;
Telford 1497; Maidstone 1433; Nuneaton 1875 (Stepney's debut); Bath 1744; Gravesend 1826; Boston 1831; Barnet 1558; Scarborough 2521 (Boxing Day); Vics 2135; Weymouth 2285; Kettering 1591; Bangor 1471; Stafford 2324; Wealdstone 1622; Yeovil 2038 (Easter Monday); Worcester 2672; Barrow 1839; AP Leamington 2453; Redditch 2004.
We didn't play a League game at home between 29th December (Vics) & March 1st (Weymouth) & in fact only played two away League games over that period (at Vics & Boston) - 2 FA Cup-ties, 4 FA Trophy games, 3 Senior Cup matches & 2 League Cup-ties took precedence. There was also just over a month between the Nuneaton & Bath home games & exactly a month between Barnet & Scarborough. We crammed 8 League games into March & another 6 in April, leaving just the one in May (plus the League Cup Final 2nd Leg at Vics, about which the less said the better!).

Since then four of the teams have gone bump and Worcester asked to be double relegated

Since then four of the teams have gone bump and Worcester asked to be double relegated
Four's a conservative estimate - Telford are now reformed as AFC Telford, Maidstone decamped to Dartford, went bust & dragged Dartford with them & are now effectively a reformed club, Nuneaton Borough reformed  as Nuneaton Town, Scarborough went bust & Scarborough Athletic are another restart, Kettering lost their ground & effectively reformed, AP Leamington sank without trace & reformed as Leamington FC, Wealdstone lost their ground, Worcester are in the sorry state they're now in, and as for the green slime ...

I had Telford, Scarborough, Maidstone & Vics and recognised that Worcester  had asked to be relegated to avoid going bump.

Quite a list and just from one division. It balances up the list that includes Wigan, Cambridge, Crawley and Forest Green Rovers
