I don't really understand why people are getting so steamed up about Salford. We never had much to do with them before and never will much in the future. Let's leave worrying about them until we have to play in the same division again.

Because Alty fans must have at least one other club to whine about. Shaw Lane last season.

Just let them get on with it.

Get off that high horse mate, you weren't keen on Shaw Lane.

I don't like Salford, not because they have money, but because we don't have that spending power (on and off the pitch). We don't have the infrastructure they've built up either. They've done it in a very strong way, similar to fleetwood.

They've built on and off the pitch in equal measure.

Sounds as though you like them to me.

I love a sound basis for dislike.

Yep, classic. Not because they have money, but because we don't have the same money.

Leave 'em all at it for me. I don't particularly like the nouveau riche non league set either, but in truth that's what many on here have been crying out for, that injection of the magic wad that will make a difference on and off the pitch. Would we turn down the cash and the media exposure if we thought it was a long term prospect? I think not.

I am not really bothered by Salford, I'm just utterly bemused at the idea of a Conference player being paid 4 grand a week. I think it's utterly bonkers and puts a lot of pressure on them to be challenging from the outset.

That said, I can honestly say I'd be loving it if Alty were in a position to be that financially competitive and pushing for a place in the football league after years of struggling in and out of lower leagues.

Its going to be inevitable though when you've got a rags to riches story backed by very high profile personalities synonymous with probably the biggest club brand in English football.

The media would have been fools not to get involved given all of that.

They're a freak club, if they go up then fair enough. I don't see them as a direct threat to us and our paths have barely crossed. If that sort of resource had been thrown at us then a lot of our fans would have been ecstatic.

If Salford didn't have the financial clout to buy better players to win the Conf North, then there's every chance that we would have spent more than a single season at EvoStik level.
So, as much as some people hate the idea of money in football, we really have nothing to be bitter about in this case.

My verdict on that game is that is was too windy and I wish I'd worn another jumper.

Oh, and am I right in thinking that was Salford reserves?

A bit of a mixture really. No sign of their 2 main centre halves from last year (Pierganni & Hogan) but Pond will probably start this year & he played, as did Wiseman at RB.

Would have been quite keen to see this £4k p/w lad but he wasn't around either.

For all of the half-chances we had, we didn't seem to have any clear-cut ones, I can't really put my finger on the problem apart from maybe we were trying to walk the ball in the net at times, and whilst the pitches are like bowling greens, JJ is always going to be a threat.

I'd put it down to the fact they defended quite well, as on the whole did we.

Even with the lack of goalmouth action thought it was a decent game. Felt for Jones scoring the og as he'd had a good game.

Can't see us signing Bannister or Downing, although Bannister did impress.

Don't know how many Salfords' were missing but they were bang average for a conference north team

Danny lloyd played, he scored 8 last season in league one and Gaffney who scored 7 in league one last season aswell as Pond from peterborough among others so i think they put out a relatively strong squad to be honest.

I thought it was a good workout against full time opposition that are favorites I believe to with the National league. A draw would have been the correct result in my opinion, we worked hard and if it wasn't for all the second half subs we could have pushed on for a win.

When we get in and around the box we do need to try and get our shots away more often.
