First time we've won there in over 20 years, and first time I've seen us do it in 6 visits going back to 1978 !

Great team performance against a full time side. Was congratulated by a number of their fans when leaving, and I have to agree with the one who reckoned they wouldn't see a better goal than JJ's this season.

Particularly pleased with the way we weathered the 10 minute storm following their equaliser. Bad free kick decision from another poor ref (nowhere near as bad as Saturday's clown though !) and I thought Thompson's positioning was questionable. Previous Alty sides would have buckled, but we fought them off.

Agree with all the above.

Thompson won't be happy when he sees it back but I'm sure he'll learn for next time.

Great performance and what a goal from JJ.

Full Time? So they practice that all week then? Wow.

PP's Red & White Army!

My one and only negative is that it was another set piece goal we've conceded which makes it 3 from 3..

JJ’s goal is surely already a candidate for goal of the season, even decade. I was in line with the shot so to see it coming towards me and curl the way it did, in seeming slow motion, outside the reach of a diving keeper was almost balletic. With JJ hitting it in his stride with the outside of his right foot made it appear very Showleresque too.

A very enjoyable night so thanks to the team.

It was a stunning goal and the view from the away end / not away end gave us the chance to truly appreciate the technique. I really, really hope the footage does it justice.

Too add and echo what PP has said,Moult played very well last night. It suits his play against a slower and more physical side.

Have we evolved into a 433 now? If so, I'm all for it.

Not a massive fan of the 4231 at any level, but begrudgingly I accepted that it fitted Alty really well in the Evo Stik with our personnel (particularly Poole as No10 is by far his best role).

In his absence I think I'd like to see the following:

                            Hulme
Hancock                                  Johnston

             Williams              Richman

                           Moult (c)

Hampson   Jones    Goulding    White

                         Thompson

Harsh on Harrop, but the three other central midfielders we have are experienced and instil confidence both on the front and back foot.

I really don't know who I'd select anymore. A case could be made for any of them. Glad it's PP who has to make the call.
433 might have been for Southport's benefit as I believe Telford had done something similar against them on Saturday.

I suspect you’ve overlooked the match thread because 9 pages and the owner telling people not to bother is a fair amount of reaction!

A lot of intelligent discussion on that forum. Maybe they all went to the grammar school round the back.
