Well, Virgin don't mind that much as they do a special cheap Virgin Trains only fare from Manchester to Stockport, as well as certain other stations.

It's really not toys and prays though is it.

It's just someone trying to run a business that is beneficial to their target market. Filling the long distance trains with short hop shoppers isn't the plan.

It's the same with Watford Junction at the other end.

The original plan was not to stop at Stockport at all.  After all it's only six minutes down the line from Picadilly. It is rather strange considering the trains only stop at three other stations between Manchester and London.

Does anybody know what car parking is like at Stockport County? Can you get near the ground at least; especially as transport seems to be going against us at present.

There's a car park just past the ground, think it's a fiver.

Not much roadside parking, lots of permit areas

From John Laidlar’s site:
“Supporters should be informed that there will be no parking at the ground and they can use nearby ‘Booth Street’ car park (SK3 9DF) for which a charge of £4.00 is payable. This is a secure car park which will be staffed throughout the match from noon to 7pm".

I too was looking forward to a leisurely train ride from Buxton but it looks like I’ll be driving now.

I had just asked my Stockport County season ticket holding friend at work, and it's actually £4, he says, at the car park behind the Railway End. It is staffed and pretty big, although it has known to get full up. There is some street parking but further away.

It's £4.10 return on the X5 from Sale, although you would have to walk from Stockport, as it doesn't go through Edgeley.

It's a godsend for people like me that live in that neck of the woods and travel to London with work regularly - don't have to fight in and out of town after what has usually been a long day.

Residents permit parking only applies to the roads that are on the same side as Edgeley Park, if your heading towards the ground having driven past Morrisons turn left down any side st once past the Wycliffe Hotel, only a short walk there
