Chorley match thread
« on: January 07, 2019, 10:13:35 AM »

Unarguably the most important game of the season so far. They've got over their recent form slip to some extent, but clearly aren't the juggernaut they seemed to be in August and September.

The wheels were back on the bus at Boston, although we didn't really beat very much. Play largely as we did in the last 25 minutes of the first half there, and we need fear nobody. Sit deep like we did in the last 20 minutes of the match, and we could be in trouble.

Need to treat every game as a cup final now on the long run in. Players need to step up as on Saturday at Boston.

For me, same starting line up as Saturday, barring any injuries/illness or loans.

Hopefully good following as only 30 miles away. 4 of us going.

Train to Wigan wallgate then there’s a regular bus to Chorley bus station. There’s a great real ale bar at Wigan north western station which is one minutes walk from wallgate station and also a great real ale bar two minutes from Chorley bus station called the shepherds hall

Just note that the Shepherds Hall only opens at 1pm on Saturdays.

Wigan's very good for places like Warrington and Crewe, but the last train back to Manchester is 1655 in the strike timetable.

One other option is to go via Bolton & catch the 125 bus, which passes within a few minutes walk of the ground, but again there are no trains from Bolton after 5pm-ish. Any way you look at it, getting to Chorley on Saturday by public transport will be a bind.

Obviously not ideal for everyone andy, but i mentioned to someone else today that all though it’s an unorthodox route, Manc - Crewe on an express and Crewe - Wigan on an express and the same on
The way back is not the expensive epic would first appear. Crewe to Wigan is 14 quid return and Crewe return is usually about a tenner

That's a possibility, especially if they allow more leeway for unorthodox routes on a strike day. In general, I think it depends how near to Manchester you live, in which case bus via Bolton (there is an hourly expess bus from the Trafford Centre to Bolton - the 300, I think - to consider as well) becomes a better bet.

The Wigan Central bar, under the bridge from North Western station, is excellent, by the way, for anyone who goes that way.

Actually, it's the Chorley transport and bars thread, it seems!

In a parallel universe there is a thread on a rail travel forum discussing non-league football.
