I was at the ground earlier this afternoon and the pitch looks in good condition but with no covers on. With non stop heavy rain forecast from 3am onwards I don’t fancy our chances of playing unless there are plans to put the covers on this evening.

I think they may have looked at the forecast and thought their is no point in covering the pitch as it won't cope with the constant deluge forecast for tomorrow from mid morning onwards.

It means another Tues fixture which isn't ideal.

More of a problem for them than us I'd suggest.

Thanks Ray spot on.
I could elaborate more, but got an early start tomorrow.

It might be worth pointing out that the covers can only cover the most vulnerable areas, they aren't big enough to cover the whole pitch. If they are down then I wouldn't see any point in taking them off before the inspection as there'll be the whole of the rest of the pitch to inspect, and that may well be waterlogged. If the game is called off it won't be the fault of the covers, the referee, the chairman or the ground staff, but the weather.

I don’t fancy another day like Witton at home last year. We play much better on a good surface.

Looking at the fixture lists, April 2nd is the only viable date. We're at Telford on the 9th, they won't want the 16th as they're playing on Good Friday, and both sides play on Easter Monday - then the season finishes.

The reserves have a game scheduled at Moss Lane on Tuesday & I suspect the turnaround would be too quick in any case.
Incidentally, games OFF today so far at Alfreton, Blyth, Darlington, Guiseley as well as ours. Only Boston v Chorley, FCUM v York, Kiddy v Spennymoor & Leamington v Southport still on at this stage & at least one of those could well go - Moston will be pretty wet if the deluge here, about 4 miles away, is anything to go by!
