Excellent highlights, silly unnecessary challenge by Max. Gave the referee a decision to make. Two good strikes from ourselves after a poor goal to concede.

silly or a committed player ? I know which I would rather have playing for us . Took the ball no contact with the player and his feet were on the ground and he took the ball with one foot not 2  . A yellow for me at most unless the game has gone . Btw I know the game has gone

I've watched it loads of times now and I'm none the wiser! It looks like Max has launched himself with 2 feet and won the ball cleanly with 1. I don't know what the rules are about this. I doubt it's clear cut enough for an appeal.

Still don't think it's a red, but not clear cut enough to have it overturned.

Their players weren't exactly surrounding the ref. For me it wasn't a red but he should know what happens next by now.

Having commented on another thread about Aaron Cresswell's red card that was overturned by VAR,  I have to say that this is not dissimilar. Even a yellow for Max's challenge would have been harsh. He isn't off the ground, isn't out of control, and wins the ball.

Yes, I’d tend to agree. But in fairness to the referee, he’s got himself into a great position from which to make the decision, having been given a decision to make.
And no one in the ground, including the TV cameras, had a better view of the challenge (which was rash if nothing else) than he did.
I still think you’d see a yellow given more often than a red, but it’s not like the ref has just guessed from 20 yards away or anything.

My first instinct was red card due to the speed of the way Max went through. However, on review the tackle was not wild, the feet were low and not near the Curzon player...but, like I say, I had the chance to see the replays.
An appeal would be fruitless.

I think that’s the first time I have seen a man sent off for a challenge that didn’t even cause the opponent to loose his footing. Hancock last year didn’t initiate contact with the player but at least he fell over.!

At the risk of upsetting people again the challenge not have to make contact if in the opinion of the referee it was dangerous. It's all the FA website if anyone cares to take a look.

Sadly, a truism of the modern game.
Reading in the paper that the Chelsea v Leeds FA Cup clash would have had 6 reds by 1997 standards!

Not completely sure of the rules but regardless of contact both his feet appeared off the ground with studs up. I think its a red these days. personally, a yellow should have been enough. Their bench didn't help matters though. SBL
