The very mixed response indicates that it is simply a matter of taste. For me, I absolutely loved the Kevin Keegan Southampton kit of the early 80s (which it reminds me of) so I'll be getting one for myself and one for my boy.

I’m liking it...it’s quite a change but I’m sure after a few games it’ll become more familiar. A little disappointed that the yellow kit only makes it to 3rd kit behind the grey one, perhaps there’s a reason behind that?

Good to see changes being brought in across the board, the online shop is massively improved too.

We need to bring back Graham Bennett and David Constantine if we are going to wear that kit.

Red shorts. It should always be red shorts.

I must say I preferred last season's kit with the little black stripes, but what is the point in changing if you're not going to make it a big one.

I've seen far worse kits and remember there is a little bit of Ecky in this one.

My only other comment is to make the yellow kit our 2nd kit, not the grey!

It's still a striped shirt, just less stripes than usual (the amount of stripes has varied over the years so I don't see the issue) and as others have said we have had plenty of non red and white striped shirts even during our finest moments.

Love the simplistic style, looks really fresh and modern. Credit too for the professional way it has been marketed this year.

The yellow one is superb.

The home kit will grow on me I think.

Here's a local celebrity modelling one of the options which was rejected by the kit committee:

It seems to me that it's more commonplace for striped teams to mix their kits about - look at the likes of Barca / Juve - I quite like it and expect to see some more leftfield ideas each year.

Agreed I'd like yellow to be the away kit - and I don't see why we couldn't change the blue to red in the sash, so we've still got our main identity running through the kit.

I like it-something different & a fresh look. To note I believe the players were also consulted & gave it the thumbs up too. Good work by the club & with the launch online today too.

I don't care what we wear as long as we kick on from last season.

Well I like it.  A nice nod to the past and a good, clean look to it.

I’m not normally the sort of person who gives a huge amount of thought to the kit each season. As long as it does the basics (and, to be fair, not all of them have) - play home games in red & white, you can read the numbers on the back of the shirt clearly, the players can see each other in a crowd etc. - then I’m not normally that arsed either way.

However, with a new kit launch every 2 seasons, it’s quite difficult to achieve much variation on the red & white stripes (especially with the same manufacturer and sponsor each season), so I think a deviation every few cycles is a good thing.
Unless I’m missing something obvious, then it must be 25 years since we had anything other than traditional red & white stripes. During 1994/95, when we actually had two different home kits during the season if I remember rightly. Both of which were quite a divergence away from the more traditional red & white stripes.

So a change for one kit is probably overdue, and I think it looks good.
