Question for management guru
« on: October 04, 2020, 01:04:00 PM »

Not heard that duncan watmore has a club yet.
Have we approached him?
We would be a serious shop window for him and chance to regain and prove his fitness.

Nothing lost by asking him

Love to see Duncan back

A Few pressing issue for me though.

1 Would Duncan want to go back into semi-pro football
2 Could we afford his wages I know he is available on a free but
Would his wage demand be to much.
3 is he fit no point Signing him if after 2 games he's injured and out for months no benefit to player or club.

1. Duncan ideally wouldn't want to go back into semi professional football, but an opportunity to be playing and gaining fitness should be his priority. Plus it would help put him back in the window.

2. Afford his wages? He isn't earning any wages so that would surely be kept within our budget, because one penny is more than he is earning without a club.

3. No manager would sign a player if they didn't think they could get or stay fit.

No offence but silly issues to raise.

We should 100% be asking if he fancies it. Week by week, non contract. He can only say 'no'.

Silly issues?
Duncan suffered a horrific injury that is probably go to affect his career were ever he plays so my point is why sign a player who is probably going to be injury prone. Also why did Sunderland let him go?
As for wages appreciate he not making any money from football at the moment but when he was at Sunderland he was probably earning more money in a month than our whole team earns in a month.so would he want to play for 300 quid a week?
Just to point out I am a huge fan of Duncan.Such a shame that when you say anything about a previous fans favourite on these football forums that your views are classed as silly.

It is for exactly the reason mentioned "why would a manager sign someone injury prone" that no club has given dunc a go especially during these times.
He has also not been training with a club so missed pre season and not match fit.
So he may be unlikely to find a club at all.
We are an ideal place at least for him to train and prove his fitness.
It may be a short term thing... It may become longer term.
We could in 6 months time get another fee for him.
I'm the absence of any other offer we could help each other out.??

The way that those lot at OT have started the season, They could do a lot worse than giving him a go in their setup.

If he is still based in the North East it could be a no go on that alone.

Also I would be very surprised if we were to put details of approaches to and negotiations with potential signings in the public domain before anything was confirmed...

In this case what exactly have we got to lose?
Id like to know if the club had considered this or never even thought of it.

If the club get in the habit of denying transfer rumors, which may in an individual case seem harmless, then when a rumor spreads that is actually true and the denial not forthcoming, then the secret is out. So a policy of silence on such matters, frustrating as it may seem in cases like this, is actually for the long term benefit of everybody.

Do I get the boring T**t of the year award???

Spot on (I will accept the award you suggest btw). Not fun or exciting obviously but makes perfect sense.

I just don't think it's particularly professional for club officials to be discussing any transfer target - real or hypothetical - on a fans messageboard. Getting players in is the management team's remit in all of this, bear in mind too that Watmore left long before PP arrived.
