We haven't had a top half final position since 1994-95, you are right, but I was really asking about our position at any point in the season. I think we were 4th or 5th after a
good start in September 2005.

John Laidlar's site has us ascending to fifth spot in the league after a 2-0 home victory over Morecambe on Monday, 29th August 2005 (courtesy of goals by Colin Little and Colin Potts).

It was our fifth game of the season, which had opened with two defeats followed by three consecutive victories.

If anyone is wondering what happens if you go on a winning run and then narrowly lose to alty at home then these 11 pages are worth a read:-

Wow, so chuffed for that win. Yes they bought some early free kicks and lobbed the ball in, but other than hitting the bar, I don't recall Thommo being tested. Everyone gave 100% and a great header from a corner for the winning goal. 4th in the league table, who'd have thought it. Enjoy today and then focus on the next game.

What worries me immensely, is that Wrexham are the sort of club that should be making an approach for Phil if they had an ounce of sense.

Thankfully I don't think they do.

Winds me up when you read opposition forums - after defeat to us - claiming that we're of 'limited ability' and we got an element of luck.

You could argue the best chance of the second chance was ours, when Senior broke through.

Plenty of good crosses, but nothing to show for them - he's channeling his inner Dean Saunders 😂

Strange interview. It constantly looked like he was going to burst into tears - is losing to us that bad? He probably needs to work on something other than set plays in training though ☺️

Great performance last night. Rode our luck but after we survived the first 20 minutes we never looked in any real danger. I'd give a special mention to Joel Senior, good in defence and looked like a genuine winger on the ball.

We were superb all over the pitch last night.

Wrexhams biggest threat came from set pieces due to tremendous delivery.

Thought Ceesay did ok but we still need a long term solution up top.

Joel Senior is very good, interested to see how long we can hold onto him if these performances keep up.

Is he on a contract?

Wow. I can't recall our forum being that toxic even when Young Harvey and Doherty were spinning their web of magic. Maybe I've just moved on and erased it from memory.

TBF to him, last night's game was effectively the start of his interview with the new owners who'll probably have been advised there'll be people queueing up for the job (they may even have someone lined up already) - and he's fluffed his first question. Not that fans forums mean anything (!) but Wrexham's suggest the Cowley Bros which is a good shout.
