With the possibility of Richie Sutton taking to the field against Sutton United when was the last time we had a player play against a team with the same name?

There may be a more recent one but the only name that springs to mind is Graham Barrow.

If we were to bring Bob Havant-Waterlooville in on loan before next weeks trophy game...

A possible candidate would be Steve Buxton, who played for us in the late 80's but we only played Buxton once, in 88-9 at that time and I am not sure he was still with us.

We didnt play Chester when Colin Chesters was at the club, nor Poland when Lee Poland was here!

A nice question for a Friday morning

My day job is analysing the Scottish Prem and part of the in house style is referring to players by last name only. The amount of confusion this generates around Hamilton centre back Jamie Hamilton doesn't bear thinking about. I have to be careful to make sure my notes don't say things like "Hamilton defended well with Hamilton a highlight."

Good job you never had a player called East scoring five goals against Forfar.

Colin Alty played for Skem United in the mid 70s - I guess there's a good chance he lined up against us?

I think Gianluca Havant-Waterlooville would have been a better answer from me earlier!

Pity we never played Met Police when Shaun Constable was on the books.

Remember years ago watching AFC Wimbledon play Met Police. Two coppers walking around the pitch perimeter were treated to a rousing chorus of "Is that all you take away"

Here is a pre-match interview with Sutton United manager Matt Gray. Unfortunately, the interviewer thinks that we have never played them before. Gray replies with a chuckle that he thinks the clubs probably have met, whereupon the interviewer says that it must have been before his lifetime. Hmm, he looks a bit old for a teenager, and hasn't done much research, nor read the preview elsewhere on the website.

Gray is pretty complimentary about us, and evidently knows what he is doing with his team's performances.

By the way, when I went to Met Police, one of their small band of supporters harangued the referee when one of their players got booked. "What was that for, ref? Did you get a speeding ticket or something"

You can't drive five miles for a walk round a reservoir with one friend, but you can travel 200 miles to play footy with twenty one others, plus subs, management and officials.

Right. Glad that's clear.

No, "you" can't drive 200 miles for a football match but the players can. They are athletes going to compete in elite sport and are treated as such.

Get a grip lads, it's not like they are travelling to London for a night out.
