I’m sure we’ll play another 5/6 PSF all in the NW at least. If we have a new director who is putting his time, money & skill set into the club then arranging one PSF (and presumably a good chance for the lads to bond over a weekend away) at his local club, then it’s really not a big deal for me. The Isle of Man was hardly down the road & I don’t recall too much fuss about our match there.

The Isle of Man wasnt after missing a season and a half, came with full travel package for fans to get there (and cheap ferry/hotel deal).

There isn't a train station within an hour of the ground  , it's 2x times the distance to get to and hasn't been handled well in announcement.

Not sure why you'd announce it as the first, why not wait for the usual Curzon Trafford etc in.

Mountain - molehill.

Curzon has just been announced for the weekend after

Ah yes - Curzon. We went there pre-season and Adarabioyo scored against us twice in six minutes. The words "false dawn" come readily to mind. Expect Harrop, Miller, and Palma to be well up for it.

Agree Glyn, some of the stuff written in here beggars belief.

I do miss going to Alty. But I'm not bothered about PSF, if beneficial to club to play a game in Essex or Arbroath get it on

There is a train station 4.4 miles away? Or Colchester station that is 11 miles away

I always find PSF a good opportunity to socialise and have a good chinwag and catch up after not seeing people for some time. It’s your privilege to not give a shiny sh*te. Each to their own.

So long as PP is happy with it, I am. It's a massive season for us. PP has the final word.

Any truth in the rumour we are joining Chesterfield, Notts County, Hartlepool and others in a breakaway Step 5 European franchise league ? We will be playing some of the best tier 5 teams from Spain, Italy and the outskirts of Bucharest and Baku.

Some great away days if ever allowed to leave the country again

Would love a PSF in Europe. I'm not often jealous of fake clubs like FC but they've had some cracking friendlies

Terrible decision this game.

In normal circumstances, perhaps, but Pre season - for many if you don't own a podcast or yellow jacket - has been the only game we could see live in 14 months.

To put a game away, that doesn't have a train station, is 6 hours by public transport, is a very poor decision. Done for the benefit of directors, not fans.

There is little footballing benefit that could not be achieved closer to home. If the lads want a night away, go to Blackpool.

If you want a day at the seaside, try Southport.

I seem to remember that Chester "City" have a similar away day most seasons, and of course Alty have previously been to Cliftonville and Isle of Man. If Alty are aiming to become more professional, these away day team bonding exercises could be worth while - though I would draw the line at British Columbia! And don't forget South East based Alty fans haven't been able to watch the team either after being denied entry to a certain other Essex club... I'm sure there will be local games we can attend, all being well. (Come to think of it, local fans are one up, having had the chance to go to Nantwich).

Nantwich on a Tuesday; a cracking drink reduced to a midweek haunt.

Does the 3-months early announcement of friendlies show where the club's head is at regarding this season?

Usually revealed in July, arent they?

So, you only object when it's a PSF that is a long distance away in England?

I had no issue with Isle of Man - they put together a comprehensive travel plan, organised a social for fans/players in the evening.

Essex doesn't come with reduced travel costs, a plan to get there, and has been promoted as something for the benefit of a director.

A trip abroad would be an exciting novelty, something not achieved by a cup draw, and could be promoted as a benefit to fans.
