Southport FA Cup thread
« on: October 13, 2021, 12:38:13 PM »

Okay folks, what's everyone's thoughts on this one?
Whilst I'd much rather stay in with a chance of the play offs, there's potentially a good payday if we can win this.
Do we patch up the injuries or shuffle the pack?
I'm right in the middle on this one. Thoughts?

Bit of shuffling is definitely required for the two injuries, we could see Gould and Sutton back, with the potential for Digie getting involved for the first time

Have they played in the cup already for their loan club? If so they can't play at Southport.
(just asking, don't know)

9K and a possible draw at Sunderland or Portsmouth (again) in the next round.

I'd play as strong a side as possible.

No, Nantwich were out of the cup before Gould arrived and Sutton didn't play in Alfeton's defeat at Cleethorpes (which I imagine was part of the loan agreement). Sutton's one-month loan period has expired so I assume he's back with us already. Gould's loan deal included an emergency recall clause, which you'd think we'll be exercising.

Bigger guessing game than usual for this match. Don't we get 7 subs in FA cup?

Would expect Gould back whatever. Sounds like Mooney is the biggest doubt of all.
Not to have Mooney or colcough would be a big blow.

Assume Southport are still a tad direct.

Looking forward to it but not as much as I was 24 hours ago.

Southport 1-2 Alty

Southport are still very direct. Their biggest weapon will be the long throw into the 6-yard area. Having said that, they do have some good footballers too.

You're spot-on, Laurence - story on website now.

Mullarkey instagram says he suffered from a slight concussion last night, so 10 days off. Hopefully thats it for him then?

Looks like it's Sutton and Hannigan then at centre back on Saturday then eh?

Yeah, hopefully Sutton is fresh after his loan, guessing he got quite a bit of gametime

Richie Sutton seemed to get plenty of gametime at Alfreton, so I guess he'd go straight in alongside Tom at the back.

Matt Gould's loan spell seems to have been a great success, I'm sure he'll take his chance with both hands.

Dan Mooney isn't worth risking if we have a ready-made replacement in Brad Jackson.

Regardless if Mooney and Kos were fit, I'd give Jackson and AJ a start.

I'd also consider resting Moult and trialling Furman and Pringle
