My husband reckons that North: Blyth  South: weymouth  West: Caernarfon  East: Maidstone, he has looked all these up in the road map.

Dover's definitely further east than Maidstone.

Competitive fixture eh? I thought it was league play we were discussing last night?

Is Exeter not further south than Weymouth?

Dover is way east of Maidstone.

Nope. We had Exeter down as furthest south and west but it's neither - how could we have forgotten the North Wales contingent?

Fair enough, the booze must have skewed my mental map!

The Ashington question remains........any older fans can confirm? Certain we played there about 1969?

And have we actually ever played at Caernafon? Or is it Bangor?

We have played AGAINST Caernarfon.....but (bizarrely) the match was a Cheshire Senior Cup tie when they spent a season playing at Ellesmere Port's ground whilst dodging the League Of Wales.

I saw us beat Ashington 6-0 in the Northern Premier League on Good Friday around 1969 so we have definitely played there.

During the inaugural season of the Northern Premier League (1968/69), Alty played at Ashington on Easter Monday, 7th April 1969 (having faced them at Moss Lane only three days earlier on Good Friday).

Having studied this on a latitudinal/longitudinal map I am fairly sure that the definitive answer for competive fixtures is:-

North-Ashington
South-Weymouth
East-Dover
West-Bangor

I have discounted Caernarvon on account of the game taking place at Ellesmere Port.

If you include friendlies then the game at Cliftonville in Belfast is the one.I think that Niell Hardy scored in a 1-0 win.
