Just watched the last half of a prog on Channel M about Manchester United in their History of Football series. At the end Susan Bookbinder (ex-Radio 5, always wondered where she went to) said that (amongst others) the next episode would include Altrincham as the club that always nearly made it. Spose same time next week but check your tv guides folks.

I thought it was a bit strange that the Rochdale fan still blames Altrincham for trying to steal Rochdales place in the league. Surely he must understand that Altrincham had the right to apply. The place was decided by 88 league clubs.

Had to smile at that spokesman for Wigan Athletic rattling on about how they were refused entry to the Football League despite winning their league every season.

When they were admitted to the old Fourth Division in 1978, Wigan were runners-up to Boston United (who, incidentally, also won the Northern Premier League in 1976/77...!).
