Madjo doubtful for saturday??
« on: September 27, 2007, 01:26:23 PM »

Might just be paper bollocks, but you never know

CRAWLEY boss Steve Evans is confident the club's owners will only cash in on top scorer Guy Madjo if they receive a big money offer.

Madjo has attracted plenty of attention from League clubs since scoring nine goals in 11 starts following his arrival at Broadfield Stadium from Stafford Rangers in the summer.

A number of clubs are thought to be preparing to swoop for the 23-year-old striker when the transfer window reopens in January but Evans is keen to hold onto his prized asset.

Evans said: "We've had five or six enquiries about Guy and that is not surprising considering the way he has been playing this season.

"We don't welcome them but I am confident the owners would want to keep Guy if something firm happened in the transfer window as he is a big part of what we are trying to achieve here.

"Obviously we live in the real world and if somebody came in with a bid which overvalued Guy I would recommend we sell him but it would have to be worth our while.

"The owners have shown they are willing to back us when they turned down a bid for Jamie Stevens before the transfer window closed so I think it would be unlikely if they wanted to sell our top scorer."

Madjo is a major doubt for tomorrow's home clash with Altrincham after taking a heavy knock on his calf towards the end of Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at Ebbsfleet United.

He limped away from Stonebridge Road clutching the man-of-the-match champagne following another battling display and has been undergoing intensive treatment since.

Evans is desperate for the Cameroon striker to recover in time as Reds look to maintain their unbeaten home record but is confident either Magno Vieira or Pierre Joseph-Dubios can grab their chance if Madjo does not make it.

He added: "Guy would be a big loss as he is the Conference's leading scorer and a lot of our play goes through him. He is such a hard worker for the team and would be hard to replace.

"We will do everything we can to get him on the pitch but we have got to be wary of playing him if it could make things worse as we need him for the whole season, not just one match.

"We've got very capable replacements in Magno and Pierre and they deserve a chance to show what they can do. Magno scored two on his last start so is a bit unlucky not to be playing anyway.

"It is going to be a tough match as Altrincham have won their last two and will go into it full of confidence but we are determined to bounce back from what happened on Tuesday night.

"We were always going to review things after 13 games and if we can win it would mean we are in the top seven and that would be a fantastic achievement."
