my nearest away match
« on: January 11, 2008, 07:26:29 PM »

Just been checking out the fixtures and the closest match to me for the remainder of the season is ... Droylsden!

I live in northumberland.

Comes to something when alty at home is just about the closest.

I sympathise. I'm further north - the nearest game for me would probably be Northwich if not Alty itself. The irony is that I live in a town (Irvine) where the lower ability team is the Vics!

Vics! The worst geam in Cheshire & Irvine!

To be frank it's very poor the conference t'up north. Nothing in the north east, cumbria or lancs and only ywo yorkies.

Won't be long before they'll call this the Blue Square Southern Premier.

Agreed Frank, its not just that there are few clubs north of Manchester, but there is a very big north/south divide in the Conference positionally & financially.

And when you think that four of the struggling teams are Northern it emphasises that point.

Crawley, Salisbury, Woking.
I'm hoping Havant and Waterlooville can get promoted then I could walk to an Alty game.

I know that's the opposite view to the general theme of the thread.

It's close for which would be nearest as the auld non-league crow flies, but it's probably just marginally Vics at around 420 kilometers. However, as I do not own a helicopter and theres a sea between me and all of them, the auld crow is no good measure. It's all a muchness as long as there's an airport nearby (and that fact makes Alty my easiest and quickest ground to get to).

Ebbsfleet, closely followed by Grays. Crawley is less than an hour away too. Dartford and Welling are nearby but obviously aren't teams that we're due to play in the near future.

Used to be Vauxhall, with  Leigh second , now Vics - Hopefully next year it will be Wrexham!
