The Cull begins at Cambridge United

I wonder if they are the promotion chasing club that was rumoured to be in financial mire if they didnt go up?  A lot of players being offloaded, trying to balance the books perhaps?

Lee Boylan, Danny Brown and Mark Convery, who all have one year left on their contracts have also been transfer listed by cambridge united, so its either a "rip it up and start again"  job or a bit of budget trimming as sharpish as possble.

We probably cannot afford any of their contract players, but i do wonder what happened to their amazing winger that they had 2 or 3 seasons back when we lost the away game 4-0. I remember him giving our defenders a hard time from the left wing. He managed to turn inside our right back following a swerve and then scored, but he was very quick. I cannot remeber his name only that he was of ethnic origine, and was there best player on the pitch on the day. he was not there this season.

Thanks Jacko, you are right. I was not able to dig my program out after all this time to give you guys better info. As I see it we need one or two wide players, a defender, and a tall forward as a target man. Where and how we get them is another matter, it will probaly have to be loan players.

Just to quell the rumours coming from various sources that we are in the sh*t, JQ is mostly releasing/transfer listing the said players as they are plainly not good enough, too old, and because he has got other players lined up. Although in the interests of Courtney Pitt, that's due to financial reasons. He was on a very big wage but too often than not was too inconsistent, and JQ has lost patience.

Our chairman has recently stated the clubs finances are healthier than they ever have been, as that includes the £115k we got for Rendell, the bumper FA Cup run, the 25% gate receipts of 42,500 at Wembley last week, and all the general trimmings that come with a play-off surge.

We'll be alright, for one more season at least...

Paul Carden is an excellent signing for Wrexham in the context that he is a very effective Conference player. He was impressive for Burton and was a major part of second place Cambridge's side this season. If they continue to make measured conference signings like that rather than paying failed league 2 players on high wages then they'll fall short exaclty like Torquay did and be in the financial soup next season go very well in the BSP.

or will you?

Further cost saving is reported from Cambridge United by the local Evening News which says that "General manager Heather Wilkanowski and commercial and public relations man Andy Duncan have both been made redundant by United. It is understood the decision to lay off Wilkanowski and Duncan is due to plans to restructure the club behind the scenes in a bid to cut costs. That is despite chairman Phil Law stating United were in better shape financially than they had been for many years when he spoke to the News last week. However, it is well known the club is still some way from reaching its goal of being able to break even

Yes we will.

As ever, the local paper does not print the full story. Yes, they have been made redundant, but we now have directors on board who can do those jobs instead.. Why employ three people to do one persons job? It's the same for any business, it makes sense. The CEN never lets the facts get in the way of a nice story. They're taking the worst face value scenario and printing that because it sounds more interesting rather than the truth.

Find someone else to save you from relegation again next season, 'cause it won't be us!

Isn't this the person who was so nice and friendly to us on this site last year when his club were in the sh*t?
Funny how he's gone all facetious now they've had a good season.
As someone else said earlier, what a tw*t.
