I don't think I've ever heard any manager give positive reinforcement from the touch-line at this level, it's just not effective. Last season the Farsley manager played Mr. Niceguy and look what happened to them.

I think that perhaps what William might have been trying to get over was the potentially destructive effect on players confidence when all that they hear from their Manager, whoever that manager might be, is negative and hyper critical.

everybody needs to be told when they're not meeting expectations but 'the stick' can be more effective when interspersed with a bit of 'the carrot'

But how can the players be praised when, as a number of people have said on here, it is hard to drag any positives from the last few matches?

William may have a point. Although, GH has always been like this and produced some good team 1991, 1995,1999,2005 and it didn't do them any harm. Perhaps the carrots are n the drssing romm

These days I stand in the tunnel for most of the match, so I get to hear what is said to the players during the match and the comments made are a mixture of encouragement, reminders of what was said in the dressing room and some 'well done's' to individual players when a good pass is made etc. There are of course the rants as well, but I would say it normally reflects the performance on the pitch.

Would anyone want a boss like the 'cote prowling the office telling you are a bag o sh*te every few minutes.

Still the players always say they respect him and footballers are notorious for being prima donners who need a good kick up the backside.
