What does anyone else think about the size of the fish at Barneys? I reckon they are too small. Come on Barneys, sort it out, we want a bigger piece of cod inside the batter.

mind you its fresh, i got one last week, it was that fresh, it ate half my chips.

I remember the sick feelign I had when I saw that one of Altys greatest landmarks, the Robins Retreat had changed its name.  I was fuming until I found out that the guy has a programme ad and helped with one of the event catering.

I used to love the Don chippy, until it got closed down with salmonella.

I'm miles away now but I alwayus used to go to the chippy by the market, dead old fashioned, dining room at the back. Hollands pudding, chips mushys and gravy in a tray. S&V on top. Sublime. I can taste and smell it now. Other favourite was chips and curry from the Chines in Sale Moor, a nightly essential after an evening in the Legh Arms.

Just nipping out for chips.................. or do either of the above deliver 220 miles away?

Steak & Kidney pudding, chips, mushy peas and a pint of gravy.

I too was gutted when the Robin's Retreat closed down.

I boycotted the new chippy for a couple of weeks, but I have to say the quality of the food is excellent and the service is friendly.

The don used to be great, and the one by the market is also good.

I also like Tri Bells in Llandudno!

Barney's is as good as any chippy in Alty, the fish is always delicious.  And, as Ecky says, they've helped the club too.

I recall a pleasant pre-match chippy meal at Boston once, which was probably the only redeeming thing about the place...

Chippy trivia!

Greenwood street chippy (the one by the market) is in fact the best chippy in the world bar none! It used to be owned by the same guy who owned McDonalds chippy in Timperley village. Which is where sunday league and Altrincham legend Nathan Comily-Excel used to serve me a fine sausage and chips after scouts on a thursday!

Barney's does a mean hot curry sauce too, think i'll be having a filthy burger from the ground today though!

McDonalds chippy was my fave, and the Don. I get the impression that these do not exist in their old form (or at all), is that the case?
