I think they went for broke a couple of years ago with money from a steel bloke from Sheffield?

Then he pulled out leaving them with contracts and bills...i think.

Iron Man, Metal Mickey....?

Around the time they signed Steve Bushell and Bandy?

Was it not the chap who used to own Laver (don't know what they do but used to sponsor Sheff Utd)?

Sounds ominous for them.

Does anyone else remember watching Alty playing in an FA Trophy tie on the artificial pitch at Hyde back in December 1987?

Tommy Docherty was still Alty's manager at that stage and I seem to recall that a late penalty by Mike Farrelly rather unjustly allowed us to escape with 1-0 victory.

I don't quite remember that one (although I was probably there). My main memory of the plastic pitch at Ewan Fields is that we played there in the red and black chequered kit in an FA Trophy/GMAC Cup tie in 1898 ish. Think we won 5-4 or something daft, there was a helluva lot off goals anyway?

Ballers,

I suspect that the match you mention is this one:

16th March 1987
Cheshire Senior Cup Semi-Final Second Leg

Hyde United...4  Altrincham...4

Shame for Hyde always enjoyed the game there, although the plastic pitch years and no off-side from a free kick rule (just one season I think) made for comical football  ;D . I guess the Vics don't know wether to laugh or cry  :P Vat man's going to get you !!

My first Alty away game was at Hyde in the North West Floodlit League on January 1st 1973. We won 2-1 with Andy Windsor scoring both of our goals.I am guessing that this is the only time that we have played a night game on New Year's Day.

It should not be forgotten that, way before we acquired Dale and Nicky from them, Hyde United provided two of our true legends - Freddie Pye, and Jeff Johnson.

I seem to recall an away midweek league match at Hyde when SCOTTIE scored 2 goals. Cannot remember when or the final score.

Cult,
Can you enlighten us?

VofD,

For a man of advanced years, your memory does you proud:

Monday, 16th October 2000
Unibond League

Hyde United...4  Altrincham...2

Gary Scott did indeed score both of Alty's goals on an extremely rainy night at Ewen Fields.

That legendary duffer, James "Der Kaiser" Glendenning was sent off for Mark Ward's team early in the game, as I recall, for aiming abusive language at a linesman!

Peter Band played for Hyde and also received a red card.

A miserable evening.

I seem to remember our big money season in the Unibond when the ball deflected off Bombers knee for a valuable and very hard earned 1-0 win.

Perhaps the cult can supply other details such as crowd, price of the burger and floodlight wattage.

Yes, i remember the 4 all game. 2 nil down after 15 mins.

We scored in the last minute of extra time as everyone was leaving to win on away goals. 1 - 1 at home in the 1st leg i think.

I have the following NPL away games with Hyde:

1968/9 lost 0-2
1969/70 lost 1-2 don't know scorer or crowd
1997/8 won 1-0 Sharratt 989
1998/9 won 1-0 Power 964
2000/01 lost 2-4 Scott 2 674
2001/02 lost 2-3 Strange, Murphy 437
2002/03 won 2-0 Robertson, Band

And do not forget the 1989/90 CSC Semi Final where we beat them 2-1 and were then thrown out of the competition for playing TWO ineligible player!
